About the club:
It is uncertain whether it is possible to define language more precisely than by the description offered by David Crystal, a passionate cherisher and advocate of language, who states that language is the expression of the oddest and richest diversity, it is a festivity of pleasure, of striking refinement, of infinite beauty.
Here at Vilnius Business College we strive to foster this constantly accompanying us festivity of language in all possible ways such as: An annual artistic translation contest held during the spring semester, which since then has become somewhat of a tradition, viewing of movies adapted from literary works, the search of unexpected insights into meaning during lexicology and lexicography classes in Applied English Language and English For New Media study programmes, always active teachers’ Reader‘s Choice hobby group, highlighting dates and anniversaries important to language - during this period we are accompanied by the anniversary of one of the world’s largest humanitarian culture geniuses- W. Shakespeare: in 2014 his 450th birth anniversary was celebrated, while 2016 marks 400 years since his passing.
But the earliest occasion for us to get together and celebrate language is the 26th of September when the annual European Day of Languages is going to be held. We strongly invite students of all study programmes to propose new ideas about what interests them, what interesting and relevant topics we should cover, learn about, share.
Welcome all to a celebration of language in all its oddity, beauty, fun, Limitless Astonishing Complexity and variety!
