We invite you to commemorate the upcoming January 13th, the Day of Defenders of Freedom!

Program of Events for the 2025 Day of Defenders of Freedom

JANUARY 13, MONDAY

  • 8:00 AM – Civic initiative “Light of Victory.” Candles are lit in every window.
  • 8:00 AM – Civics lesson: “January 13th.”
  • 9:00 AM – Flower-laying ceremony at the “Message” monument dedicated to March 11th in Independence Square.
  • 9:30 AM–3:00 PM – Events at the Parliament Visitors’ Center. Educational activities, creative workshops for children, video screenings.
  • 10:00 AM – Commemoration of the Day of Defenders of Freedom and the Freedom Prize Award Ceremony in the Parliament’s March 11th Act Hall.
    Live broadcast on the “Parliament – Live” TV program, Parliament website, Facebook, and YouTube pages, and via LRT.
  • 11:00 AM – Planting of the Forget-me-not Meadow in Lukiškės Square.
  • 12:00 PM – National Flag Raising Ceremony in Independence Square.

  • 12:30–2:00 PM – Open hours at the Parliament’s Lithuanian Freedom Defenders and Stained Glass Galleries (Parliament Building I). Concert by Vilnius Karoliniškės Music School students titled “I Am Here – Alive,” exhibitions, and video screenings.
  • 1:30 PM – Ceremony honoring the fallen at Antakalnis Cemetery.
  • 3:00 PM – Meeting with relatives of the deceased and those affected by the Soviet Union’s aggression in 1991, organized by the Parliament’s Freedom Struggles and Historical Memory Commission, Health Affairs, and Social Affairs and Labor Committees, together with the Ministries of Health and Social Security and Labor, in the Parliament’s Constitution Hall.
  • 5:30 PM – Holy Mass at Vilnius Cathedral Basilica.

Members of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Volunteer National Defence Force will pay respects to the defenders of Lithuanian freedom buried in the cemeteries of Alytus, Kaunas, Kėdainiai, Marijampolė, Rokiškis, and Vilnius.
